Water is a Universal Language

What I appreciate most about the Water Resources Research Institute at Mississippi State University is our focus on a natural resource with universal importance. Through our research and outreach, we have the potential to improve the quality of life for millions—and even billions—of people around the world every day.

That's a credit to Mississippi and the people who have contributed their knowledge, skills and experience to the institute through the years. It's also why the institute has expanded its scope to address even more issues with local, state, national and global impacts.

In this issue of WATERMARKS, you'll meet a few members of our top-notch research and Extension team who carry out our mission to solve water and water-related land use problems and enhance access to safe drinking water.

The ability to provide safe, compliant drinking water relies on infrastructure, and many communities across Mississippi struggle with aging water systems. Thanks to the institute's technical assistance, we're helping water and wastewater board members and operators address upgrades and prepare their systems for long-term service.

As a state with significant agricultural production, Mississippi requires vast amounts of water for crop production. By partnering with growers in the Mississippi agriculture production regions and beyond, our research teams are developing sustainable strategies to help agricultural producers thrive while protecting the region's water resources.

Through our focus on water, the institute is improving lives today and in the future. More than anything, that mission keeps us doing what we do best. I hope you enjoy learning more about the institute and our exceptional team in this issue of WATERMARKS.
