WRRI Director

Growth is a defining theme for the Water Resources Research Institute at Mississippi State University.

Through our agricultural research, we're helping farmers grow crops more successfully and sustainably. In the drinking water arena, we're helping communities grow and thrive by having access to healthy, uninterrupted and lead-free water supplies.

To ensure we're bringing the most current science to our communities, we prioritize training, development and advancement of our team. From seasoned researchers with decades of experience to graduate assistants building their knowledge and expertise, everyone at WRRI is pursuing career and academic growth.

I've also benefitted from that focus. On Jan. 1, I transitioned from an interim director role to director of the WRRI. I consider it an honor to lead our team as we shape a better, more sustainable future for Mississippi.

Since joining the institute in 2020, I've seen tremendous growth in our research and Extension activity and capacity. Thanks to our progress, we've established the WRRI as a major hub of water research and Extension interests for Mississippi and the mid-South.

All of this is happening at a time when new data centers and other industrial developments are placing unprecedented demands on the nation'’s water resources.

Responsible growth matters. As stewards and problem solvers, we believe there are economically and environmentally sustainable strategies to manage water resources in a way that ensures their quality and availability for future generations.

In this issue of WATERMARKS, you'll learn how WRRI is driving those conversations and finding innovative solutions. As a hub of water-focused leadership, that's our commitment to Mississippi.
