Combining Cover Crops with Irrigation Water Management Technologies to Economically Reduce Pollutant Loss from Farm Fields, Transport of Agrochemicals in Streams, and Aquifer Decline

NRCS-CIG

Abstract

This Delta-based project is designed to develop an economically viable approach to promoting sustainable agriculture by reducing non-point source pollution and aquifer decline. Using field research demonstrating a variety of conservation systems and irrigation water management tools, the team will develop agricultural production manuals to teach producers how to increase row crop yields by using cover crops with IWM strategies. The project includes farmer surveys related to soil health, water management practices, and public policy.
